About Dr. Abby

Dr. Abby Hogle Fowler is a native to Oklahoma and was born and raised in Muskogee, OK. She completed her undergraduate studies at both Oklahoma State University in Stillwater and Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK to earn a bachelor of science degree in biology with a minor in chemistry.

Dr. Fowler continued her education at a private optometry school, NOVA Southeastern University, in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

While at NOVA, Dr. Fowler completed another bachelor of science degree in vision science along with a doctorate degree in Optometric Medicine in 2006. Dr. Fowler completed several specialty internships including pediatric and binocular vision therapy and in specialty contact lens fittings while in optometry school.

In 2006 Dr. Fowler went to work for an optometrist in Claremore, OK. After 2 years of working for someone else Dr. Fowler decided in May of 2008 to open her own private practice and achieve her personal dreams and achievements. Dr. Fowler started this practice in a small 1,200 square ft building with just one staff member. Dr. Fowler learned early on that the patient experience coupled with a unique atmosphere is what would set her apart. Adhering to these values, Advanced Vision Center grew rapidly. Dr. Fowler quickly outgrew the small building she started in and built a much larger facility on the same property.

In 2015 Dr. Abby Fowler married the love of her life, Chad Fowler. In 2016 she decided to go ahead and change her name from the previous Dr. Abby Hogle Overstreet to her married name of Dr. Abby Hogle Fowler. This was a big change for her in that all her licenses and patients grew to know her as Dr. Overstreet for many years.

In 2018 Dr. Fowler and her husband had their son Waylon Fowler. Dr. Fowler was blessed with a bonus daughter (step-daughter) with the marriage to her husband Chad.

Dr. Fowler enjoys activities outdoors such as riding her Harley motorcycle, fishing, boat rides on the lake, gardening and most of all enjoys spending time with her family.

Dr. Fowler believes strongly in giving back. She is an active supporter of numerous charities that assist those whom cannot afford eye exams or glasses. She has traveled abroad to Mexico in past years to provide eyecare to the poverty-stricken areas as well as provided eyecare to her own community for the less fortunate. Dr. Fowler has donated eye exams and glasses in the past to women in the community that are newly released from incarceration and trying to make a positive change in their lives. Dr. Fowler is also actively involved yearly in raising money for safenet services (shelter for domestically abused women), United Way, Volunteers for Youth Services, and many more community projects.

Dr. Fowler is currently a member of the American Optometric Association and the Oklahoma Association of Optometric Physicians.

Dr. Fowler takes great pride in treating her patients, ages 3 to 101. Dr. Fowler has been quoted in saying: “It’s not just a cattle call in here where we just run them through. I take time with each and every one of my patients.” Such devotion has netted great relationships through the years in that many of her patients have become like family to her. In fact, some of the patients she began treating as adolescents are returning as adults, bringing their small children in the be examined.

Thorough examination comes standard at Advanced Vision Center—and for good reason. The eye provides an important glimpse into a patient’s overall health. From high blood pressure or diabetes to the discovery of a brain tumor, Dr. Fowler has seen the direct and positive impact of her practice in patients’ lives. She utilizes the latest treatment methods and technologies, investing in a range of state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment including a retinal camera, OCT, GDX, and visual field-testing machine.

Whimsical artwork and photos adorn the examination rooms along with colorful upholstered seating, reflecting Dr. Fowler’s unique vision for the patient experience. Dr. Fowler’s goal is to provide a thorough eye examination along with a relaxed fun atmosphere to provide each patient with a great experience. At Advanced Vision Center, there is something for everyone to enjoy, even a Harley Davidson themed examination room. The unique ambience extends to the optical shop as well. “Eye Candy” is at every turn. Dazzling furniture, hand-painted by Dr. Fowler and her mother, displays a vast array of frames for all ages.

Advanced Vision Center’s continued success is clearly attributable to Dr. Fowler’s ability to treat her patients to an experience rather that an examination.
